Watchtower

A harbor view

An urban watchtower by the sea

Just at the tip of Copenhagen´s Nordhavn, the watchtower creates a viewing platform with a close conceptual link to harbors historic function as a shipping port. The urban watchtower is created from a number of containers, stacked vertically and horizontally 8 meters tall. A staircase weaves its way in and about the tower, leading to two small exhibition spaces half way up, ending at the viewing platform at the very top of the tower. Large panoramic glass walls at the end of each white container opens up the bright yellow interior, tempting bypassers to venture up into the watchtower. From the top, visitors get a clear view across the water and the surrounding area, which is designed with small islets of greenery and trees, benches and bicycle stands. The entire area is part of a recreational area running along a promenade, leading the way to the watchtower.

How the project addresses the Sustainable Development Goals

In the project we have worked with issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals. However, the project was not designed to address the global goals, as it was created before the goals were adopted by the UN. We have worked with issues related to: SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth and SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals.
