Bagsværd Observation Home
Well-being and Flexibility
Overlooking Bagsværd Lake, the newly renovated Bagsværd Observation Home was originally built as a summer villa in the early 1900s, it now serves as an observation home for children aged 0-8 years and their families. The facility offers both residential and daytime placements, as well as family therapy, all in a safe and scenic environment.
Renovation and Modernization
An extensive renovation has transformed the villa into a functional and flexible building. Alongside it, a new annex called “The Garden House” has been constructed and connected to the main building via a low glass passage, creating a harmonious whole. While the main building is dedicated to activities for children, The Garden House houses administrative offices, family accommodations, and a new entrance area that opens onto the surrounding green spaces. With clear divisions and pedagogical frameworks, the home has been adapted to meet modern needs, supporting its work with children and families.
Utilizing the Scenic Surroundings
The surrounding green areas have been integrated into the home’s setting with a newly designed garden path that winds through the landscaped spaces, offering access to the lakeshore and views over Radiomarken. Here, families and children can play, relax, or enjoy the beauty of nature.
A Warm and Secure Interior Design
The interior has been thoughtfully designed to create a homely, warm, and inviting atmosphere. Special attention has been paid to making communal areas both functional and flexible, with spaces for play, social interaction, and private moments of reflection. Furniture with soft shapes and rounded edges has been chosen to ensure that children can safely explore their surroundings. The use of oak and natural materials throughout underscores a harmonious connection to the building’s history and architectural character.
Flexible and Adaptable Solutions
To meet the diverse needs of a temporary home, the design incorporates familiar and practical solutions: shelves for toys, picture ledges, and hooks to make daily life easier and create a sense of security for both children and parents. The communal areas are flexible and can be easily adjusted to accommodate different age groups and family compositions.
Focus on Durability and Well-being
The interior design emphasizes durability through carefully selected materials and furniture that combine functionality with aesthetics. Every element has been chosen to foster an inspiring and secure atmosphere where children and families can feel at home and find peace during challenging times.
An Inspiration for Future Institutions
Bagsværd Observation Home, with its successful renovation, picturesque setting, and pedagogically tailored design, serves as a model for future buildings. It demonstrates how functionality and aesthetics can be united to create comfort and well-being for children and families.
